bedreigde stad

2013 | 8’ | lo-fi digital electronics, recorded voices and piano

my last lo-fi electronics piece is based on the first for pages of Paul van Ostaijen’s poem ‘BEDREIGDE STAD’ from Bezette Stad. The piece was recorded on laptop microphone, creating a tinny and boxed, sound. This is my last lo-fi piece.

It’s a representation of the poem in all its typographic jumpiness, which documents the fall of the city of Antwerp in the First World War. It tries to capture the angst and pain of such a fall in hard, distorted, claustrophobic & cold electronics. The text is occasionally sung, whispered, intoned or multitracked.
